Be.EV is a regional public charging network which provides fast and rapid chargers in the Greater Manchester area. Be.EV’s fastest chargers can charge at 50 kW. They don’t have a membership fee. You can access their chargers by downloading and registering on their app or using a contactless card. 

Amey operates the be.EV network on behalf of Transport for Greater Manchester. Be.EV replaces the GMEV network, although you can’t use the GMEV app or card to access Be.EV charging points. Be.EV hopes to provide easy and convenient charging locations in the Greater Manchester area. They are a fast-growing network with hundreds of charging points. 

Where Does Be.EV Cover?

Be.EV is a regional network which operates in the Greater Manchester area. Most of their chargers are located in Manchester, although they also operate in surrounding locations like Stockport, Wigan, Oldham, Rochdale and more. 

They operate over 140 charging points in Greater Manchester and constantly expand their network. They hope to eventually provide chargers throughout the region to incentive EV owners and provide reliable, convenient locations for EV drivers to charge at. They hope to operate 1000s of chargers in the near future.

Chargings Speeds At Be.EV Charging Points

Be.EV's network is made up of fast and rapid chargers that charge between 7 - 50 kW. They use the Type 2 connector for AC charging and the CHAdeMO and CCS connectors for DC charging. Not all UK public charging networks provide charging for the CHAdeMO connector as it is not the European standard DC connector. 

To help you understand how long it would take to charge your EV at Be.EV’s charging locations, we’ve calculated how long it would take to charge three of the UK’s most popular EVs from 10 - 80% at Be.EV’s charging speeds.

We’re calculating 10 - 80% rather than 0 - 100% because you should avoid draining your battery to 0% or filling it up to 100%; doing either of these things can damage your battery’s condition. Most EVs slow their charge as they approach 100% to protect battery life.

The three EVs we’re using to calculate Be.EV’s charging times are the 40 kWh Nissan Leaf, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range and the Jaguar I-Pace. Each EV has different max AC/DC speeds and battery capacities.

7 kW Charger

Be.EV’s 7 kW charger uses the Type 2 connector for AC charging. A 7 kW charger is best used for topping up your EV as it will take a long time to charge it substantially.

It will take the 7 kW charger 4 hours and 15 minutes to charge the 40 kWh Nissan Leaf from 10 - 80%; it would take 7 hours and 30 minutes to charge the Tesla Model 3 Long Range and 9 hours to charge the Jaguar I-Pace.

11 kW Charger

The 11 kW charger uses the Type 2 connector for AC charging. It is best used for topping up your EV. Be.EV has many 11 kW chargers in their network. 

Using the 11 kW charger to charge the three EVs from 10 - 80% would take the following times. It would take the 40 kWh Nissan Leaf 4 hours and 15 minutes, the Tesla Model 3 Long Range 4 hours and 46 minutes and the Jaguar I-Pace 5 hours and 43 minutes. 

22 kW Charger

Be.EV’s 22 kW charger uses the Type 2 connector for AC charging. 22 kW is above most EVs’ max AC charging speed. If your EV's max AC charging speed is below 22 kW, it will charge at its max speed instead of at 22 kW when using this charging speed. 

All three EVs we use to calculate charging time have max AC charging speeds below 22 kW.

It would take 4 hours and 15 minutes to charge the 40 kWh Nissan Leaf from 10 - 80% using a 22 kW charger. It would take 4 hours and 46 minutes to charge the Tesla Model 3 Long Range and 5 hours and 42 minutes to charge the Jaguar I-Pace.

43 kW Charger

Be.EV’s 43 kW charger uses the CHAdeMO and CCS connectors for DC charging. This rapid charger is much faster at charging your EV than the preceding AC charging speeds. 

It would take 39 minutes to charge the 40 kWh Nissan Leaf from 10 - 80% using a 43 kW charger. It would take 1 hour and 13 minutes to charge the Tesla Model 3 Long Range and 1 hour and 27 minutes to charge the Jaguar I-Pace.

50 kW Charger

The 50 kW charger is a rapid charger which uses the CHAdeMO and CCS connectors for DC charging. 50 kW is the most common DC charging speed in the UK. 

The 50 kW charger would take the following times to charge the three EVs from 10 - 80%. It would take 36 minutes to charge the 40 kWh Nissan Leaf; it would take 1 hour and 3 minutes to charge the Tesla Model 3 Long Range and 1 hour and 15 minutes to charge the Jaguar I-Pace.

 

How Much Does It Cost To Charge At Be.EV Charging Stations?

Be.EV doesn’t have a membership fee option to allow EV owners to access their charging points at a discount. To access their chargers, you can either pay with a contactless card or get slightly cheaper charging by downloading their app and registering on it.

Registered users pay 46p per kWh for Be.EV’s fast chargers and 56p per kWh for their rapid chargers. Contactless users pay 49p for fast chargers and 59p for rapid chargers.
