GeniePoint is a public charging network that provides chargers up to speeds of 50 kW. You can frequently find these chargers all over the country at Morrisons, as they are the supermarket chain’s official charging partner.

They don’t have a membership fee, but you must download their app before using their charging points.

GeniePoint is run by Equans, formerly Engie EV Solutions, a market leader in renewable technologies. They hope to provide easy access to 100% renewable energy charging for EV drivers. Their energy is provided to them by Octopus Energy, a global leader heavily invested in the UK’s solar and wind farms.

Where Does GeniePoint Cover?

Geniepoint has locations all over the UK. They have the most charging points in the South of England, although they have many points all over the country. They don’t have too many in central Wales or Scotland, but there are still a few in those areas. They don’t service Northern Ireland.

Their charging points are often found in Morrison’s car parks as they are the supermarket’s official EV charging partner. Each of their charging stations usually has 2 or 3 points, each providing different charging experiences at different speeds and for different connector types.

Chargings Speeds At GeniePoint Charging Points

GeniePoint provides charging speeds between 7 kW - 50 kW. They plan on introducing ultra-rapid 100 kW+ chargers in the future, but as of October 2022, they don’t have any.

They provide both AC and DC charging. For AC charging, they use the Type 2 Connector, and for DC charging, they use the CCS and CHAdeMO connectors; not all charging stations in the country provide charging for the CHAdeMO as it is not the European standard DC connector. It would be best if you don’t fully charge your EV using an AC charger as they are much slower than the DC charger; instead, you use them for topping up your car’s battery or in an emergency. Almost every station has two DC charging options and 1 AC charger.

22 kW Charger

GeniePoint’s 22 kW chargers are fast chargers which use the Type 2 connector for AC charging. These are common at their stations and charge above the average max AC charging speed for most EVs.

To charge the 40 kWh from 10 - 80%, it would take 4 hours and 15 minutes; to charge the Tesla Model 3 Long Range, it would take 4 hours 46 minutes; and to charge the Jaguar I-Pace, it would take 5 hours 42 minutes.

43 kW Charger

GeniePoint’s 43 kW charger also uses the Type 2 connector for AC charging. The charger is very common at GeniePoint stations. 43 kW is very fast for AC charging which means it will probably charge at the max AC speed for your EV.

To charge the 40 kW Nissan Leaf from 10 - 80%, it would take 4 hours 15 minutes; to charge the Tesla Model 3 Long Range, it would take 4 hours 46 minutes; and to charge the Jaguar I-Pace, it would take 5 hours 42 minutes.

50 kW Charger

GeniePoint’s 50 kW charger is their only DC charging option. They have 50 kW chargers for both the CHAdeMO and CCS connectors. This is a rapid charger and the fastest charger that GeniePoint provides.

To charge the 40 kWh Nissan Leaf from 10 - 80%, it would take 36 minutes; to charge the Tesla Model 3 Long Range, it would take 1 hour and 3 minutes; and to charge the Jaguar I-Pace, it would take 1 hour and 15 minutes.

How Much Does It Cost To Charge At GeniePoint Charging Stations?

It costs 57p per kWh to charge at GeniePoint charging stations. It is the same price regardless of which charger you use. A few of their charging points are free, and you can see which ones are free by looking at their interactive map.

They charge a £10 overstay fee if you use DC charging for over 90 minutes or AC charging for 240 minutes, then another £10 for every subsequent 90/240 minutes your car charges.

There are no membership fees for GeniePoint, but you must register on their app before you access their charging points.
