Char.gy is an on-street public charging network which provides charge points for drivers without off-street parking using 100% renewable energy. Most of their charging points are located in London, Coventry and Leicester. Char.gy was founded in 2016 and installed their first charging points in Marlow in 2018. They currently have over 2700 public charging points across the country and are quickly expanding. Most of their chargers run between 3-7.4kW however the fastest chargers in their network can charge up to 22 kW.

Where Does char.gy Cover?

Most of their charge points are in London. You’ll find them in Southwark, Merton, Croydon, TowerHamlets, Brent, Harrow, Haringey, Redbridge. Out of London, they have charge points in Coventry, Buckinghamshire, Leicester, East Lothian. Their charging stations are usually found on street lamp posts, and they hope to expand their network to provide charging points on every street post across the country.

Charging Speeds At char.gy Charging Points

Char.gy provides over 2700 charging points in the UK. Most of these charging points are slow chargers that charge between 3 - 7.4 kW. There are faster ones in their network, like their 22 kW chargers, although these are rarer to find. All of their chargers use the Type 2 connector.

You can only fully charge your car at these speeds if you leave it charging for an extended period. As such, they are often used to top-up EVs or for overnight charging and therefore greatly suited to residents without off-street parking.

This slow charger uses the Type 2 connector for AC charging. It charges far below the average charging point speed.

To charge the 40 kWh Nissan Leaf from 10 - 80%, it would take 9 hours and 20 minutes; to charge theTesla Model 3 Long Range, it would take 17 hours and 30 minutes; and it would take 21 hours to charge the Jaguar I-Pace.

3.5 kW Charger

char.gy’s 3.5 kW chargers are slow chargers which use the Type 2 connector. These are best used for long periods or topping up your car’s battery.

If you were to charge your EV from 10 - 80% using the 3.5 kW charger, it would take 8 hours to charge the 40 kWh Nissan Leaf, 15 hours to charge the Tesla Model 3 Long Range and 18 hours to charge the Jaguar I-Pace.

4.1 kW Charger

char.gy’s 4.1 kW charger is another slow charger which is slower than the average charging point in the country. It uses the Type 2 connector to charge your EV.

It would take the 40kWh Nissan Leaf 6 hours and 48 minutes to charge from 10 - 80% using the 4.1 kW charger. It would take the Tesla Model 3 Long Range 12 hours and 48 minutes. It Would take the Jaguar I-Pace 15 hours and 21 minutes.

4.4 kW Charger

The 4.4 kW charger is another slow charger which uses the Type 2 connector for AC charging.

‍If you charge the 40kWh Nissan Leaf from 10 - 80% using this charger, it will take 6 hours 22 minutes; if you charge the Tesla Model 3 Long Range, it will take 11 hours and56 minutes; and if you were to charge the Jaguar I-Pace, it would take 14 hours18 minutes.

It takes 5 hours and 30 minutes to charge the 40 kWh Nissan Leaf from 10 - 80%; it would take 10 hours and 18 minutes to charge the Tesla Model 3 Long Range and 12 hours and 21 minutes to charge the Jaguar I-Pace.

7.4 kW Charger

The 7.4 kW charger is a slow charger which uses the Type 2 connector.
